Bald eagle over Skwelwil'em Squamish Estuary tidal marsh

I’ve been photographing wildlife seriously for over ten years, and the thing I find myself thinking about most is not gear or settings but how to read a situation. Where to position yourself. When to wait and when to move. How to get close without disturbing anything. That kind of knowledge is hard to pick up from YouTube tutorials, and it’s what I try to share in these workshops.

We work in the field around Squamish, mostly in the estuary and the surrounding forest. The Sea-to-Sky corridor is genuinely one of the best places in Canada for accessible wildlife encounters, and knowing how to make the most of it photographically takes some practice. I’ll cover whatever is most useful to you, whether that’s camera settings and understanding light, composition and how to use the environment, or the fieldcraft side of things like how to approach subjects and anticipate behaviour.

Sessions are small, usually one-to-one or a maximum of two or three people. I don’t think you learn much standing in a group of ten waiting for your turn. We’ll spend proper time with what’s in front of us, talk through the decisions as we go, and review images together at the end. No experience level is too low or too high. If you’ve just bought your first camera and feel overwhelmed, I can help. If you’re an experienced photographer who wants to improve a specific aspect of your wildlife work, we can focus on that.

There’s no fixed price. Get in touch, tell me what you’re hoping to get out of it, and we’ll figure out something that works.
